‘NCIS: Hawaii’ canceled, closing a chapter for CBS shows filmed in the islands

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The crime drama “NCIS: Hawaii” is saying aloha after three seasons.

Multiple media reports say the “NCIS” spinoff series, which stars Vanessa Lachey as Special Agent Jane Tennant, has been canceled at CBS.

It wasn’t immediately clear why the show was canceled, but it likely came down to money and a crowded field of “NCIS” shows on CBS.

The news comes on the heels of the cancellation of “Magnum, P.I.,” another major television production in Hawaii.

The “NCIS: Hawaii” cancellation also mean CBS won’t be filming a show in Hawaii for the first time since 2010, when “Hawaii Five-0″ began production, followed by “Magnum, P.I.” before NBC picked it up.

The series finale of “NCIS: Hawaii” is scheduled to air on May 6.
